Once upon a time, there lived a poor woodcutter and his wife, who had two children named Hansel and Gretel. Due to a severe famine, the family struggled to find enough food. The stepmother, desperate to rid themselves of the children, convinced the woodcutter to abandon them in the forest. Although he was reluctant, he eventually agreed to her plan.
Before they were taken into the woods, Hansel overheard their stepmother's plan and collected shiny pebbles to leave a trail back home. After being left alone, the children followed the trail of pebbles back to their house, much to their father's relief. However, the stepmother was furious and insisted they be abandoned again, this time deeper in the forest.
This time, Hansel could not gather pebbles, so he used breadcrumbs to mark their path. Unfortunately, birds ate the breadcrumbs, leaving them lost. As they wandered, they stumbled upon a house made of candy and sweets, owned by a wicked witch who lured children to her home with the promise of food. The witch captured Hansel, intending to fatten him up before eating him, while Gretel was forced to do chores.
Clever Gretel devised a plan to save her brother. When the witch ordered Hansel to show her how fat he was getting, Gretel tricked the witch into checking the oven. In a moment of distraction, she pushed the witch into the oven, killing her. The siblings then discovered the witch's treasure and filled their pockets before escaping the house.
Eventually, Hansel and Gretel found their way back home, where they were joyfully reunited with their father. The wicked stepmother had died, and the family lived happily ever after, free from hunger and fear.
